A small store is selling this aged sour beer, and it’s a very compelling Fall beverage. Cider-like dryness with a crisp finish and full body without overt hoppiness or sharpness (full disclaimer: I am full of it for even attempting to describe a beverage in those terms). Dark amber color. Cracked it open far too early given the big night, but tomorrow will be a long enough day without starting it close to P.M.
Lastly, and this is not political-
Be safe out there tonight; I overheard some alarming conversation getting some fast food in my mid-sized city, and suffice it to say enough so to ensure that will be my last trip out for the night.

I got a store pick of Knappogue Castle 12, and it is phenomenal. I got it from a place called “Rishi’s International Beverage Emporium”. When Rishi himself is in the store and says “I’m really excited for you to try this” and hands you a sample - you know it’s gonna be good. I tried it last week and immediately bought 3 bottles. I’m stocked up for a few weeks, to put it mildly.

Sounds incredible. I love me a Belgian sour.
And I can’t believe the US would fall apart over something as trivial as a vote for leadership. The fact “safety” is even an issue is absurd.

I dunno. At this point it’s obvious that a huge percentage of my country has values that are alien to me, and it’s just hard to imagine what to do next.

Cheers. I’m off tomorrow, so...

I keep thinking I should cut down o n the drinking, but then you guys remind me that’s a stupid idea.

It won’t. People just like to be melodramatic.

I think we may have very similar yellows in our kitchens.

It came that way, but I like a cheerful kitchen!
The white is painted plastic tile...and it’s originally turquoise. I think my whole house was turquoise at one point.

I mean there are crazy people out there. My wife went to vote this morning at our polling place (an elementary school) and there were 3 of those boogallo idiots there in full gear and armed to the teeth. Police showed up and there was a pretty violent confrontation when they were arrested.
No t saying there will be mass violence, but there are an alarming percentage of people fine with violence against those that disagree with them.

some red whine
I’m taking that typo as intentional, and I like it.

That’s...interesting. I’ve only ever seen one all turquoise room, and it was the master bath in a very old mansion. Kinda depressing really.

True. But that’s always been the case. Society is not going to crumble suddenly for tonight. That some think so is vanity.

My first foray into ‘Compass Box’ blended scotch.
This one kinda falls on its face and is DOA on arrival, but follows with some decent warmth and an oak’y enough finish to merit a repeat sip. 5 /10.

I was woefully oblivious to the genre, and I am
grateful for the convenient introduction!
And you have the rational take next to
so many Americans who
should
benefit from some perspective of, oh, upbringing or historical context or familial/
friendly ties. But,
sadly, that is not the case. The divide is extreme, and we are all losing for it. The front page of Jalopnik used to be some strange alternate universe of anti-social behavior, but I am sorry to say that the behavior has manifested in real life to an alarming degree. Safety concerns aside, I just scolded a woman who let her dogs loose to piss and poo all over the yard of a person with anti-mayoral
(democrat) and pro-mayoral
candidate (also democrat)
signs while yelling obscenities to the offending homeowner
. That’s the typ
e of scene I hesitate to describe as the
‘benign’ scenario. Naturally,
there’s an abundance of
much worse to recount, while most parts of the country are far better-behaved
.
It’s absurd, though the trend is longstanding. Comically, I hope none of that comes off as controversial or “tone-deaf.”

Someone went nuts on this place in the...50s/60s? The last color the wood siding was painted is turquoise (now covered by asbestos). The upstairs had turquoise vinyl tile floor. The kitchen was turquoise tile. And there’s turquoise paint under some of the wall paint downstairs. Then someone turned it into a rental and just covered everything in beige.

Eh, most people don’t have to worry about their safety. I probably have more cause to worry than a lot of the people who are , and I have so little concern that I’m drinking rather than loading spare magazines .
I’m just drinking a local zwickel-style beer. Nothing all that fancy.

If you can get hold of Cantillon - it’s sour, but it’s the best. I quite like Rodenbach too but it’s sweeter.
Man that’s nuts. It shouldn’t be like that, you know? The whole point of democracy is to choose our leaders without resorting to violence and bloodshed! In some countries in the world, people go out and vote, and everyone’s entitled to their own choice, and that’s all.

Where did I imply that society would crumble tonight? The next block down from me is burned out. A bus was charred in front of my building. Three guys got in the workers’ faces tonight and said they were gonna get to looting if the opportunity arose while saying they were gonna beat anyone up who got in the way. That’s a literal recounting of the situation, with no allowance for melodrama. Personally, I will exercise caution.
EDIT: Apologies if this was not directed towards this post.

Oh I wasn’t referencing you at all. I was speaking in general. Some people will take any opportunity for shenanigans and mayhem. If you have those around, then please do be careful. We used to hear about devils night in Detroit every year at Halloween. Same thing. People destroying their own city. Very sad.

That sounds delicious!
This is my drink tonight, it's not bad. I have to familiarize myself with the west coast breweries, but first blush and it's positive.

I pulled down a 32 oz can of a 9.7% Scotch Ale beer from my local brew pub. At the moment, it has not done anything to quell my anxiety over this election. I’m hoping to get some sleep, and wake up to a non-authoritarian autocracy led by an asshole in orange makeup.

Yes. If you’re not familiar with this peated Irish, you should be. That said, you're aged Belgian is a good one. I've got one of those I've been aging for a couple of years now. For the peer bottles I bought with it, they were fine when bought and even better after a year in a cabinet.

I just bought my first bottle of Peat Monster. It didn’t drop my drawers either. The nicest Caol ila I’ve ever had, but still just a Caol ila. Maybe once past the neck it'll open up.

Yeah, I tend to avoid bottles that are that overt about their intentions; best Caol Ila you’ve had though, huh? Noted!

I should clarify, I’ve had better single malt Caol ila from independent bottlers but they had their own unique characters. Peat Monster was the best official distillery Caol ila I’ve had. :-)x
